summer 2002 - The convent Garden

Our grounds continue to be an attraction to the local population: Sunday- afternoon-walks in quiet and beautiful surroundings or for the boys from Helfta village fishing in the pond. However, as we continue to develop our convent life a fence will give us more privacy. There is plenty of wildlife around starting with various kinds of ducks, a heron, doves, and ravens as well as a great variety of other birds. And of course as from early May onwards we have the frogs in concert. Our garden continues to take on shape under the caring hands of Sr. Norberta. During June we had plenty of strawberries and radishes as well as several species of salad. Sr. M. Lucia grew cucumbers in the glass-staircase and thus added greens to our diet very early in the year.
